We always recommend you to use the most updated LTS or short release version possible. There are less security risks and you can use more updated resources as well. Nevertheless, we have older versions available for you, even though we highly recommend you to go for the most updated LTS or short release version one.
For those wanting the previous LTS (14.04), the details for that are here.
Types of installation
Desktop (Graphical Installer)
These versions are suitable for PC's with over 700 MB of RAM. Do not try to install 64 bit on a 32 bit machine. Installing 32 bit onto 64 bit is safe. These images require either DVD or USB for the image.
Alternate is a non-graphical installer image used for computers with less than 4.3GB hard disk space and below 700MB RAM. Use the alternate versions for non-standard setups. Also, use this image if you require one that will fit onto a CD.
Minimal install: Using the minimal ISO, it is possible to install and run lubuntu-core on a PC with only 64 MB of RAM. 128 MB of RAM is considered the minimal requirements for a usable Lubuntu Desktop system.
Upgrading from last release
Upgrades are possible from one release to the next and from one LTS to the next LTS. When upgrading, it is recommended that you back up your own data and you should read the release notes to be aware of both new features and any known issues.
16.04 is a Long Term Support version and thus supported for 5 years.
The links below are for the current release (supported for 3 years). You should read the release notes. These desktop images require either dvd or usb, see the alternate images if you require CD sized images.
Please use the torrent link to download, it will be a faster download and will save on costs for bandwidth for the Canonical servers... which means more money in the budget for all of the Ubuntu flavours.
If you’re not sure about installing Lubuntu, you can try it out without affecting your current installed system.
Hint: With the default DVD, you can boot your computer with Lubuntu to back-up your data!
32-bit version, suitable for almost all PCs.
64 bit version for Intel, AMD and 64 Bit Mac computers. Most PCs older than about 2007 are not 64-bit compatible, so you may need a 32-bit ISO instead of a 64-bit ISO.
Power PPC systems
The default "Desktop" installer requires 384-800 MB of RAM (depending on your selected options.) If you have any problems, or if you're comfortable using a keyboard interface, try the alternate installer to install on computers with less RAM or a hard disk smaller than 4.3 GB.
Burn the DVD OR create a bootable USB flash drive.
Check USB or DVD/CD Disc for Errors. When you boot the default installer, you will see the option to "Check Disc For Errors", otherwise, check for errors manually.

Previous releases are here.
As with all alphas and non-stable betas, they are not suitable for a production environment. If you'd like to help out, we always need more testers. For more details please see the section in our wiki for testing.
