In this guide, I have provide workaround for screen resolution issue. Hopefully this workaround should work in all Ubuntu.

'''Note:''' ''I have tested only for Intel Graphics Controller.''
||<(-2 tablewidth="90%" style="border:none">  1. Go to '''System''' ---> '''Preferences''' ---> '''Display''' ||
||<( width="10%" style="border:none">||<( style="border:none">{{attachment:menu.png}} ||

||<(-2 tablewidth="90%" style="border:none"> 2. You will see a screen similar to the following, where you can change refresh rate, resolution, rotation and detecting monitors. ||
||<( width="20%" style="border:none">||<( style="border:none">{{attachment:display preferences.png}} ||

 * In this screen as you see monitor will not get detected and you will not have options to change refresh rate, resolution and rotation.

||<(-2 tablewidth="90%" style="border:none"> 1. To know what is your controller open a terminal and execute the following command : ||
{{{
$ sudo lspci | grep -i vga
}}}
It should give message like this:
{{{
$ sudo lspci | grep -i vga
  00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics
  Controller (rev 0c)
}}}

||<(-2 tablewidth="90%" style="border:none"> 2. Make sure that your hardware is not in the blacklist. Modify the script /usr/bin/compiz. Open a terminal and execute the following command : ||
{{{
$ sudo gedit /usr/bin/compiz
}}}
Search in the file the lines about the blacklist. There should be a pair of lines with your (i.e. intel) graphic card. Comment them out (meaning: put a '#' at the beginning of the line).

It should look like this:
{{{
# blacklist based on the pci ids
# See http://wiki.compiz-fusion.org/Hardware/Blacklist for details
#T="   1002:5954 1002:5854 1002:5955" # ati rs480
#T="$T 1002:4153" # ATI Rv350
#T="$T 8086:2982 8086:2992 8086:29a2 8086:2a02 8086:2a12"  # intel 965
#T="$T 8086:2a02 " # Intel GM965
#T="$T 8086:3577 8086:2562 " # Intel 830MG, 845G (LP: #259385)
BLACKLIST_PCIIDS="$T"
unset T
}}}

||<(-2 tablewidth="90%" style="border:none"> 3. In xorg.conf, replace "vesa" with "intel". Open a terminal and execute the following command :||
'''Note:''' ''Make sure you take a backup of xorg.conf before editing.''
{{{
$ sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
}}}
 * Search for “vesa” and replace it with “intel”.
 * Save and close the file.
