Find information about your operating system

Knowing about what operating system is installed may help you understand if new software or hardware will be compatible with your system.

  1. Open the Activities overview and start typing System.

  2. Select Settings ▸ System from the results. This will open the System panel.

  3. Select About to open the panel.

  4. Select System Details.

  5. Look at the information that is listed under OS Name, OS Type, GNOME Version and so on.

Information can be copied from each item by selecting it and then copying to the clipboard. This makes it easy to share information about your system with others.
