Guide on how to deal with a wrongly detected external monitor connected through VGA-cable
1. If you are connecting your external monitor with a VGA-cable, check that it has all 15 pins present in both ends, otherwise automatic detection might/is bound to fail. Most cables, according to my experience, seem to have one pin missing.
