It's Linux-supported hardware; the manual itself states that it supports Linux 2.4.2 and later releases. It should therefore be detected without problems by Ubuntu. You can transfer music files to the device via Rhythmbox, although ogg files must be transferred via Nautilus, due to a Rhythmbox bug.
